Consulting · About Hans

I advise like someone who has to build it.

Business judgment, technical leadership, and production accountability belong together.

Hans Luther

Background

I started my career at Deutsche Bank in New York, 2004–2011, first in equity derivatives technology, then as Vice President and Business Manager for North American Equity Derivatives. Then a decade in hotels: FP&A at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, pre-opening at PUBLIC New York, General Manager of Unscripted Durham through a turnaround, and executive strategy at Resorts World Las Vegas. Those years still shape my technical work: a system is only good if it solves a real business problem.

Returning to technology, I co-founded ZeroBase and launched a cloud-based, real-time hotel FP&A system for Generator and Freehand Hotels, built from scratch. Later I led a global engineering team building a healthcare platform with more than 100 microservices, and in spring 2023, at AnchorAI, shipped one of the earlier production Claude integrations, before tool use or JSON mode existed. Most recently, at Kyan Health, I made agentic development the team's standard practice, in the team that built and ran a voice and text AI assistant for mental wellbeing, where privacy, security and ethics are daily work.

Today at Crosby33, I keep strategic judgment, architecture, and hands-on engineering together. I build AI systems and run them in production — LLM pipelines, agents, vector search, and evaluation against purpose-built calibration sets — as my own products and for clients, some of it open source. Oval Brief (ovalbrief.com) is one of them: non-partisan civic tech, a public-policy document intelligence app, iOS and Android apps in both stores on an AI pipeline running in production since March 2026. And I work with companies as a technical advisor, architect, and fractional CTO, from deciding what is worth building through accountable production delivery.

For hotel owners and operators, I start where I spent the decade: on strategy — long-range plans, room and brand strategy, a turnaround — and on what those decisions stand on: numbers you can trust. In most hotel companies they are spread across property systems, spreadsheets and accounting, assembled by hand every month. I integrate PMS, POS, revenue and accounting data into one architecture with consolidated reports and agents on top, so the numbers sit in one place with the source system visible behind them. Not long-term and rarely full-time: a few days a week over a few months, then handover, or ongoing support for companies without the resources to carry it. KeyTwelve (keytwelve.ai), my hotel acquisition underwriting product, covers the deal side.

What clients say

“Hans rebuilt how we ship. He moved us off a hand-managed VM onto Cloud Run with a parallel bring-up and a reversible cutover designed before anyone touched production, and he restructured our tracking so work was actually assignable and visible. He audits his own recommendations too — he reversed one of his own architecture calls when the investigation came back different from what he'd assumed.”

— Ian Brent, Founder & CEO, Rising Seer

“I first worked with Hans at Fountain Life, where he led the development team building our 100+ service healthcare platform. Years later I brought him in to build HealthLab's outbound voice agent — the full streaming loop from telephony through speech recognition, model, and synthesis. In both, he was fantastic to work with, knowledgeable, quick to guide the team to adapt to new technologies, careful in his technology choices, and great to brainstorm with through complex challenges to get to elegant solutions.”

— Mike Gillam, CEO, HealthLab

“I've worked with Hans at two companies now. He's the person I call when the technical decision matters more than the code, and he's the reason I stopped treating architecture as something you sort out later.”

— Jon Johnson, Founder & CEO, Touchpoint K12 · former CEO, Anchor AI
